Resee, designed by Stone and Forest Architects, draws inspiration from the book "Art of Garden-Building," an ancient Chinese monograph on gardening that emphasizes creating spaces that appear natural, as if formed by nature itself. The design team aimed to incorporate these principles into the studio, resulting in a three-dimensional space that conveys the essence of oriental Zen aesthetics.
The main challenge faced by the designers was the limited floor height of the site, which stood at only 3100mm. Additionally, the existing pipelines and equipment on the ceiling further restricted the available space. Despite these limitations, the team successfully created a sense of depth and openness within the studio.
To overcome the budget constraints, the designers opted for cost-effective materials such as recycled old wooden boards and rough putty surfaces. These materials not only reduced costs but also added a unique texture to the space, enhancing its overall aesthetic appeal.
The interior of Resee features a combination of gravel and indoor plants, creating an indoor garden that not only adds visual interest but also helps reduce energy consumption. The strategic use of architecture and gardening techniques indoors contributes to a more sustainable environment, reducing the need for excessive air conditioning.
One of the standout features of Resee is the integration of the studio's functions with the ancient oriental garden design. By covering the upper half of the sight, the design directs visitors' attention towards the interior landscape, creating a sense of tranquility and focus.
Stone and Forest Architects successfully transformed a small studio into a captivating space that reflects the client's high aesthetic standards. Through the fusion of traditional gardening techniques and modern architecture, Resee showcases the beauty of oriental design in a contemporary setting.
The design of Resee was completed in June 2020 and has since garnered recognition and acclaim. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2021. This prestigious award recognizes the outstanding creativity and resourcefulness of the design, as well as its contribution to improving the quality of life.
Resee stands as a testament to the ingenuity and artistry of Stone and Forest Architects, showcasing their ability to create unique and captivating spaces that seamlessly blend tradition with innovation.
